ABOUT MATERIALX

What else can you make?

MaterialX helps manufacturers look differently at the materials, processes, equipment and knowledge they already possess—then identify where those capabilities could create credible new value.

WHY MATERIALX EXISTS

The next opportunity may already exist inside the business.

The next opportunity may already exist inside the business.

Manufacturers often know their current products exceptionally well. What is less visible is where the same materials, processes, equipment and technical knowledge may have value in another application or market.

MaterialX was created to uncover those connections—particularly where existing capability is underused, constrained by its current market or capable of solving a problem the manufacturer has not previously considered.

A DIFFERENT STARTING POINT

Start with capability. Then search for opportunity.

Start with capability. Then search for opportunity.

01 — Look beneath the current product. A finished product represents only one use of the capability behind it. MaterialX examines the material properties, processes, assets and knowledge that made it possible.

02 — Cross industry boundaries. A performance requirement in one industry may already be solved by a capability operating in another. MaterialX searches across those boundaries.

03 — Challenge before developing. An interesting idea is not yet an opportunity. Technical fit, market relevance, manufacturing reality and the route to validation must all be examined.

Independent of any one material, manufacturer or market.

Independent of any one material, manufacturer or market.

Independent of any one material, manufacturer or market.

MaterialX is not tied to a particular technology, product category or industry. This independence allows the search to begin with what a manufacturer can genuinely do—not with a predetermined product that needs to be sold.

CAPABILITY-LED — Existing materials, processes, equipment and knowledge come first.
CROSS-INDUSTRY — Relevant applications may sit beyond the manufacturer’s established market.
EVIDENCE-LED — Opportunity claims are separated from assumptions and matters still requiring validation.
COMMERCIALLY GROUNDED — The objective is a credible pathway—not simply a longer list of ideas.

FOUNDER AND EXPERIENCE

Built from experience across materials, manufacturing and markets.

Built from experience across materials, manufacturing and markets.

MaterialX was founded by Brendan Lowen following more than 20 years of experience across architecture, building materials, manufacturing and market development. His career has included more than 15 years of direct involvement in fibre-cement products, alongside work in insulation, construction chemicals, technical systems and market development across Sub-Saharan Africa. That combination created a recurring observation: manufacturers often possess valuable capabilities that are understood only in relation to the products they currently make. MaterialX was established to help reveal what else those capabilities could enable.

MaterialX works across technical, operational and commercial perspectives. It helps manufacturers identify credible opportunities, establish what must be validated and determine whether an opportunity deserves further investment, testing or market engagement.

MaterialX does not assume that every idea will work. Its role is to expose potential, challenge assumptions and define what evidence is needed before a manufacturer commits further time or capital. The outcome may be a new application, a better use of an existing asset, a valuable home for a secondary material stream—or a well-supported decision not to proceed.
